+> Starting with the [24H2 update (September 2024)](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/description-of-the-security-update-for-sharepoint-server-subscription-edition-september-10-2024-kb5002640-c3065f06-d94e-4028-9249-d353ae631cbd) for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, admins can no longer create new web applications or web app extensions using Basic authentication. Existing web apps using Basic authentication should continue to function, but new ones cannot be created.
