# Use Microsoft Teams Assignments LTI app with Canvas

The Microsoft Teams Assignments LTI® app brings the Learning Accelerators, Microsoft Forms, Whiteboard, OneNote pages, and all of the new generative AI features of Teams Assignments to your LTI® v1.3 Advantage compliant learning management system (LMS).

The integration allows you to connect class teams and add Teams Assignments right into your LMS assignments list where students can launch and complete them, and then sync grades automatically back to the LMS.

## Canvas and Microsoft 365 requirements for the integration

- **Grading Pass back from Teams Assignments to Canvas** - To send grades from Teams Assignments to the Canvas gradebook, we must map student identities between Canvas and the Microsoft Entra ID directory services. The Canvas user **Email** field must be populated with the matching Microsoft 365 user UPN or primary email address. Verify this field is populated for every student who will use Teams Assignment in Canvas to ensure grades and feedback can sync back to the Canvas gradebook.
- **Rostering Microsoft Class Teams to Connect to Canvas Courses** - There are multiple options that can be used to create and roster Microsoft Class Teams to connect with your Canvas courses and use the Teams Assignments integration. Using the [Canvas integration for Microsoft Teams Sync](/microsoft-365/lti/teams-classes-with-canvas#enable-the-microsoft-teams-app-in-canvas) ensures that teams are created only for educators who enable them and are kept in sync automatically with the Canvas course roster. [Microsoft School Data Sync](/schooldatasync/school-data-sync-overview) can be used for district and school-wide team deployments kept in sync with the SIS/MIS for course or sections. If you enable educators to create their own teams, they can do so and connect those teams to courses for things like labs, cohorts, and other groups.
- **Enabling the Microsoft Teams Assignment App in Class Teams** - The Microsoft Assignments app for Teams must be enabled in the class teams you use with the Teams Assignments LMS integration. Read more about [the Teams Assignments app and how to enable it for users](/microsoftteams/expand-teams-across-your-org/assignments-in-teams).

## Deployment options

### Option 1: Org-wide deployment (all courses) with option for left nav placement visible or hidden by default in course menus

This method requires a one-time setup by the administrator.

1. Sign into your Canvas instance as an administrator.
1. Select the **Admin** link in the global navigation, and then select your account.
1. In the Admin navigation, select the **Developer Keys** link, and then choose the **Inherited** tab.
1. In the apps list, search for **Microsoft Teams Assignments**, and then toggle the **State** switch to **On**. Note the two distinct inherited Developer Key apps listed for Microsoft Teams Assignments. The app with "(Course Navigation Disabled by Default)" following it installs the app without the Course Navigation placement enabled in courses. In other words, educators must add to their course menus themselves. You need to know the Client ID for the developer key you chose to enable as it's used in step 9.
1. Select the **OK** button to confirm your choice.
1. In the **Admin** navigation, select the **Settings** link, and then choose the **Apps** tab.
1. Select the **View App Configurations** button, and then select the **+ App** button.
1. In the **Add App** screen, change the **Configuration Type** dropdown to **By Client ID**.
1. In the **Client ID** textbox, enter the Client ID:
 - To deploy the app **Visible** in the left navigation menu for all courses, enter Client ID **170000000001876**, and then select **Submit**.
 - To deploy the app **Hidden** in the left navigation menu for all courses, enter Client ID **170000000001877**, and then select **Submit**.
1. Select **Install** to complete the installation.

### Option 2: Single course installation

If you choose not to install the app for all courses as described in steps 6 to 10, then you or each course teacher must install the app for individual courses.

1. To install the app for an individual course, select the **Settings** link in the course navigation, and then choose the **Apps** tab.
1. Select the **View App Configurations** button, and then select the **+ App** button.
1. In the **Add App** screen, change the **Configuration Type** dropdown to **By Client ID**.
1. In the **Client ID** textbox, enter the Client ID: **170000000001876**, and then select **Submit**.
1. Select **Install** to complete the installation.

Teams Assignments is now be deployed and ready to use.

## Ongoing use by educators and students in a course

On their first access of any Teams Assignments flow, users must sign in using their Microsoft 365 account.

## Recommended browser settings

# Use Microsoft Teams Assignments with PowerSchool Schoology Learning

This guide provides the IT admin steps for deploying the Microsoft Teams Assignments learning tool interoperability (LTI) app in PowerSchool Schoology Learning.

For an overview of all of the Microsoft integrations for learning management systems (LMS), see [Integrating Microsoft products with your Learning Management System](/microsoft-365/lti/).

> [!IMPORTANT]
> The person who performs this integration should be an administrator of Schoology Learning. However, Schoology Learning users with access to the Schoology Learning **App Center** can also install the Teams Assignments app.

By installing and using the Teams Assignments LTI, educators and students can transmit grades to the LMS where the terms of use and privacy policy of that application apply.

## Deploy the Teams Assignments app in Schoology Learning

1. Access the **Teams Assignments** app in the [**App Center**](https://app.schoology.com/apps) by copying this direct link into a browser: 'https://_\<apps\>_.schoology.com/apps/profile/7314774244' and replacing the _\<apps\>_ portion of the URL with your organizations custom subdomain (for example: districtXYZ.schoology.com/apps/profile/7314774244). Then browse to the app store profile.

1. Select **Login** in the upper right to log into your Schoology Learning instance as an administrator with access to install and configure the app.

1. Select the **Install LTI 1.3 App** button to begin the installation process.

1. Select the **I agree** button.

1. When asked if this app should be installed for your entire organization or just for you, select **Add to Organization**, and you're redirected to the **Organization Apps** page to complete the configuration.

1. From the [**Organization Apps list**](https://app.schoology.com/apps/school_apps), locate the **Teams Assignments** app and select the **Install/Remove** button.

1. To install the app for all courses, choose the **All Courses** checkbox and the **Course Admins Only** checkbox.

> [!NOTE]
> If you choose not to install the app for all courses, then Course Admins must install the app for themselves by either:
>
> - Selecting the **Install Your App(s)** link at the bottom of the course left rail navigation menu, and then selecting the **Teams Assignments** app to install.
> - Going to the [**Organization Apps list**](https://app.schoology.com/apps/school_apps), selecting the **Install/Remove** button, and choosing the courses in which to install the app.

## Use Teams Assignments in Schoology Learning

- Users in Schoology Learning should have their email address populated with the UPN or primary email address from Microsoft 365/Microsoft Entra. This is required for grades to sync from Teams Assignments to the students in the Schoology Learning gradebook.
- A Microsoft class team needs to be connected to the Schoology Learning course section that uses Teams Assignments. The class team should have the same users and roles as the course section, with teachers as owners of the team and students as members in the team.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> For grading and feedback sync via LTI to the Schoology gradebook to work, the assignment needs to have a Category specified.

> [!TIP]
> Defining categories in Grade Setup and marking a category as the default (yellow star icon) ensures that Teams Assignments linked in Schoology have a category assigned automatically.
